Living 5 mins away from Tempe, I’ve gotten to know the local vegan food scene, and I’m excited to share some of the area’s best 100% plant-based restaurants!
I share vegan food spots in Tempe that are fully dedicated to plant-based menus, with one exception that’s still a must-try spot for its vegan Mediterranean flavors.
The list is not long but there’s something for everyone! Oh and it’s Tempe (TEMP-EE), not Tempeh like the protein! Lol
So whether you’re local or just visiting, here’s my roundup of go-to vegan spots in Tempe and Phoenix.

Vegan in Tempe: Desert Root Kitchen

Desert Root Kitchen is a newer addition to Tempe’s vegan dining scene, and it’s been on my list of must-try places for a while.
Known for its fresh, plant-based meals, Desert Root Kitchen closes early, so it’s best for breakfast or lunch.
I haven’t been here yet, but I’ll be sure to update this post after my visit! If you go, let me know what you think!
Early Bird Vegan in Tempe

If you’re into Southern-inspired comfort food, Early Bird Vegan is your spot! While Early Bird has a location in Tempe, they’re also the original inspiration for Trash Panda, a beloved Phoenix vegan cafe.
The Tempe location closes at 2 PM, so it’s perfect for breakfast or brunch.
We’ve enjoyed dishes like their savory vegan biscuits and gravy, hearty breakfast platters, and some seriously tasty vegan chicken sandwiches.
There’s much more seating at their Tempe location.

As part of the globally recognized Loving Hut chain, this restaurant in Tempe brings a menu full of fresh and flavorful vegan options, many with Asian-inspired influences.
We love their appetizers and tofu dishes, and their spring rolls are always a win.
It’s great knowing that Loving Hut is part of one of the largest vegan chains in the world—proving that plant-based eating is popular and accessible worldwide.
Green New American Vegetarian

Owned by the same team as the original location in Phoenix, Green New American Vegetarian in Tempe offers a menu filled with classic comfort foods reimagined in a plant-based way.
Their burgers, vegan wings, and hearty sides make it an ideal spot for anyone craving vegan-friendly American food – we enjoyed them.
I love that both locations keep the menu consistent, so you can expect the same deliciousness wherever you go.
They even have a cute Ice Cube machine! 😅🤣

This tea room is everything from themed Alice to Wonderland to delicious vegan tea, and food.
We love this place, it’s pricy but perfect for date night or day time spot.
here is a sitting few limit and expect to pay some mula 💰😅 Great for all special occasions! We loved celebrating our anniversary and mom’s birthday at Drink Me Tea Room!

Vegan Express (Mostly Vegan)

Although not 100% vegan, Vegan Express makes the list because of its strong selection of vegan Mediterranean dishes, which are hard to come by in the area. So I had to include!!!
Their falafel, hummus, and veggie-stuffed wraps are fantastic, and most menu items can be customized to be fully vegan.
If you’re in the mood for Mediterranean flavors, this is a great spot that welcomes plant-based diners with open arms.
I’ll update this post with my review of Desert Root Kitchen once I’ve had the chance to try it!
Best Vegan Pizza in Tempe
Okay, so I did say this was all about vegan in Tempe but I have to also share a general we discovered that sells vegan pizza.
We love finding new vegan pizza in Phoenix so much we wrote about it! In Tempe the best vegan pizza is Venezia‘a takes the pie! It’s so good, and they even have plant-based sausage. Our kiddos loved it!
