Vegan Sushi in Phoenix was difficult to find. When we first moved to Phoenix, we were in search for really good vegan Japanese food. We’ve tried vegan sushi in Phoenix, AZ Metro Area. It didn’t take long to find vegan sushi in Phoenix – a delightful plant-based spin on the traditional roll!

We’ve included our personal top 2 favorite places for Vegan Sushi to keep things simple (one in Phoenix and the other in Gilbert).

Wait, does Costco sell vegan sushi?

SPOILER ALERT! Costco, is not on the list as of January 2024. Costco does not sell vegan sushi in Phoenix, AZ. Womp Womp, womp. But you can purchase vegan sushi at, you guessed it, Whole Foods. We share more about this in the Q&A.

Vegan Sushi in Phoenix, AZ

1. MOIRA Sushi Bar & Kitchen | 215 E McKinley| 602-254-5085

This restaurant menu labels plant based and gluten free on the menu (also vegan). Moira Sushi has a ton of great reviews, and vegan appetizers (edamame, cucumber salad, seaweed salad, edamame dumplings) and we hope to check it out soon.

We will update this post once we try this place out. They have about the following vegan sushi options:

  • Rainforest (yamagobo, tofu, asparagus, lotus, cucumber, avocado, scallions, sprouts)
  • Oishii (garlic prawns, crab mix, shallots, cream cheese, masago, sriracha)
  • Nichi (asparagus, shitake mushroom, carrot, fried shallot, shiso, toasted rice powder)

2. Tabemono Sushi & Shabu | 4236 E. Chandler | 480-687-2503

Tabemono Sushi & Shabu is a Japanese restaurant is located in Phoenix, Arizona (Ahwatukee neighborhood). It’s in a mini plaza, across the street from Trader Joes. If you’re driving down Chandler Ave you may miss it if you blink.

They have some vegan items including Vegan Sushi Rolls. They also serve non alcoholic and acholic beverages. We tried the fried sushi roll with vegan shrimp and the vegan hot soup, and fried rice with vegan ham . It was very good.

They also had high chairs for the kiddos which we appreciated. We went in the afternoon, and it wasn’t too busy and loud. The waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable about the vegan options. We also had their vegan fried rice with vegan egg and it was delicious too!

3. Trapper’s Sushi | 2 E Jefferson St.| 602-281-6341

This spot has locations in Washington, Phoenix (three in AZ), and Texas. The one in Phoenix has wide selection of drinks and vegan sushi options. They also have a small menu of vegan options (see menu below). This sushi spot can even make some of the vegetarian dishes vegan.

4. Yama Sushi House Phoenix | 470 N. Central Ave #150

Try the vegetable roll with great leaf, cucumber, avocado and sushi rice. Menu is short online but they may offer more vegan options, we always recommend that you ask for the menu.

5. Sushi Tokoro Bar|1575 E Camelback Rd. | Phoenix 85014

This place has a revolving sushi bar, and several vegan options. I know because I talked to the owner she was so sweet.

Although vegan sushi items are not on the menu you can call to confirm the current options. She mentioned a sweet potato, asparagus, veggies, and avocado to name a few. Oh, and they do deliver!

5. Yanagi Sushi | 884 Warner Rd.| 884 W. Warner St. B4

Yanagi Sushi is located in Gilbert, AZ. This place is also within a plaza and has a nice big red sign. The regular menu includes a small section of vegan items.

When we asked about vegan options the waiter provided us with a separate Vegan menu which was plentiful.

We ordered the Vegan Gyoza, Vegan wings, Crispy Soybean Strips, Spring Rolls, Vegan Salmon Roll, Spicy Shrimp Monsoon Roll and the Veggie Delight Roll.

All were delicous! We did not order drinks. Most of the rolls are soy based, and the waiter confirmed the high levels of proten in each roll. They offer non alcoholic drinks and sake for guests dinning in.

6. Zu Izakaya Asian Kitchen & Bar| 2210 N Scottsdale Rd| 480-284-6070

Zu Izakaya Asian Kitchen and Bar is located in Tempe, AZ. They have a few vegetables roll options that can be made vegan. Also, we found out that “eel sauce” does not contain eel, but is a sauce commonly added to sushi dishes including eel.

7.The Uprooted Kitchen | 3000 East Ray Road, building six suite 105| 480-459-9625

The Uprooted Kitchen is located in Gilbert, AZ, and offers a six-piece veggie sushi roll. It is filled with organic nori, cashew quinoa, avocado, sweet potatoes 🍠, cabbage, and cumber, all for $12 bucks.
